Situation Update
In April, the heightened intensity of daily aerial attacks across Ukraine and ground assaults persisted, while the frontline inched closer westward particularly in Donetsk region.
Regular bombardment on Ukraine’s second-largest city, Kharkiv is continuing, but also areas along the frontlines near Kupiansk are being targeted, areas that have been under control of Ukraine since late summer 2022.
In the past week, evacuation of civilians continued in several affected communities; 49 people, including 15 children were evacuated in Donetsk, and 29 children in Kharkiv region. WFP is currently double distributing its in-kind food assistance in such areas at risk of access constraints.
In addition to energy infrastructure being the target of attacks, railway stations are increasingly targeted, raising concerns for movements. WFP continues to closely monitor humanitarian needs to provide the necessary assistance.
