BULLET HITS DONETSK FILTER STATION (NEAR MISS OF WORKER). NEW UXO ALSO FOUND

Voda Donbasa informed WASH Cluster, that at 19:25 Donetsk time, 1625 Kiev time yesterday (December 12) a bullet of heavy machine gun (12,7 mm) hit Donetsk Filter station (DFS). The bullet hit the dispatch room window and entered piercing the wooden sheet, which was installed instead of glass. At the time, the dispatcher was actually in the room working. Only by the greatest of chance she was not hurt, but she remains extremely afraid.
The last previous incident of shooting from heavy machine gun was recorded on November 14 when small arms and machine-gun fire hit the 1st Lift pumping station of the South Donbass Water Pipeline (see Incident Report #93).
The DFS supplies water to the following settlements: Avdiivka, Kruta Balka, Vasylivka, Mineralne, Yakovlivka, Verkhniotoretske, part of Yasynuvata and western areas of Donetsk city, and it officially provides water in total to 345,309 people (December 2016 figures from Voda Donbasa).
In an unrelated incident yesterday, as staff were returning home from the DFS, by bus, a new UXO was observed in the road along which they were travelling.
The WASH Cluster is in touch with ‘Voda Donbasa’ and will report any specific needs or updates to WASH Cluster partners.
