WATER PUMPING STATION SHELLED in LUHANSK GCA

Popasnyanskyi Vodokanal (PVK) informed WASH Cluster that Svetlichansk pumping station was shelled on Monday, 20 November 2017. Fortunately, there were no injuries among staff and no damage to equipment.

Svetlichanska pumping station, as well as nearby well fields, is currently not in operation. They represent a water source, which is part of the Karbonit water supply system which can only supply water to settlements on Non-Government Controlled Areas (NGCA) side of the Line of Conflict. Since Minsk negotiations in August 2016, only the Western Filter station and Petrovskyi water intake supply water to NGCA side, and therefore Svetlichansk is currently unused.

The last time PVK facilities were shelled in March 2017, as recorded in the WASH Cluster database.
As a reminder of current realities: at the moment only the Western Filter Station supplies water to Luhansk NGCA side as power is still cut to the pumps in Petrovsky. Due to historical debts, the electricity company, LEO, cut the Petrovskyi pumps, which part-supply Luhansk city on 6 November 2017. More information is available in Incident report #91.
