Sadly bad news in the last 24 hours is that the Donetsk Filter Station (DFS) is again cut off from electricity supply, since about 5pm Kiev time yesterday and Avdiivka is also cut off. The DFS has stopped working with the usual consequences: Avdiivka (roughly 16,000 people) is cut off from clean water, as well as smaller villages on NGCA side and areas of Yasynuvata. Verkhnikalmiuske Filter Station is covering the stortfall for most of Donetsk city. This represents an extremely rapid turnaround of events, with water from DFS stopping less than 48 hours having been restarted.
Various WASH actors including the State Emergency Services, People in Need, ADRA and UNICEF, and ICRC are working to provide water through water trucking to Avdiivka and ensuring access to alternative sources. (see the attached incident report). SES hope to install a generator at the water pumping station by 8th March (2 days) so that the 4000 m3 temporary reservoir can be used to supply water to the town.
Electricity supply was reconnected yesterday to one wastewater treatment plant and one sewage pumping station in Horlivka.
