GOLMOVSKYI SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT SHELLED (THREE INCIDENTS)

The WASH Cluster was informed that today, 3rd March 2020, there were three separate shelling incidents very close to Golmovskyi Wastewater Treatment Plant, near Horlivka.

  1. Shelling started at 06:40 am and stopped at 07:35 (Kyiv time);
  2. Shelling was observed from 10.25 am to 11.30 am; and
  3. Shelling lasted from 13.45 to 14.50.

Day shift workers, (12 people in total) were present and took cover in the on-site bomb shelter during all three incidents. As before, there are environmental risks from this shelling which include that sewage from 7,800 people, normally treated Golmovskyi Wastewater Treatment Plant, could be released into local rivers, affecting water quality downstream to Bakhmut city and beyond, if there is an damage to the sewage plant.
