HIGHLIGHTS

▪ In the reporting week, the WHO Country Office (CO) in Ukraine delivered to Kherson the necessary medicines and medical supplies as part of the United Nations (UN) humanitarian interagency convoy. The supplies included medicine for noninfectious diseases, surgical kits and trauma treatment kits, burn treatment supplies and disinfectants, as well as anaesthesia supplies. The delivery was supported financially by the Embassy of Canada to Ukraine, Embassy of Switzerland in Ukraine, EU Neighbourhood & Enlargement and United States Agency for International Development's (USAID's) Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance.

▪ Thanks to the support of the American people through USAID, the WHO CO delivered oxygen systems to hospitals in Kharkiv and Chernihiv. The generators have the capacity to produce medical oxygen on site for up to 20 years, to be used for patients in need of medical oxygen due to injury, acute respiratory diseases and COVID-19.

SITUATION UPDATE

▪ Several explosions were heard in Kyiv as officials reported high-voltage facilities across Ukraine being struck by Russian missile attacks on 10 February. Ukraine’s power grid operator Ukrenergo confirmed that several power stations and transmission facilities in eastern, southern and western Ukraine had been hit with drones and missiles, which caused disruptions to power supply in those regions. The Russian forces have waged a campaign of mass missile strikes targeting Ukraine’s critical infrastructure since last October.

▪ Zaporizhzhya became the target of the Russian Federation’s largest missile strike since the start of the war, with 17 incoming missiles targeting energy infrastructure facilities reported in the area within just one hour.

▪ “Shelling in Kherson continues non-stop. Brave people have stayed behind to support the population and the UN will provide support here as long as this war continues,” said UN Resident Coordinator in Ukraine Denise Brown, who led a new convoy on 8 February to deliver vital supplies to the people of Kherson.
