Highlights

  • In April, UNICEF introduced a new cash transfer modality as a response to the escalation in hostilities across the country: cash-for-protection assistance provided as part of a holistic and unified child protection case management approach. This assistance was provided to 32 households, impacted by missile attacks, covering 121 individuals, including 61 children (30 girls) in Dnipropetrovsk and Sumy.
  • UNICEF initiated urgent repairs in three schools affected by strikes in Kryivi Rih, Odesa and Kyiv. In April, shelter rehabilitation was finalized in four schools in Zaporizhzhia city, enabling 1,709 students (871 girls) to access face-to-face learning for the first time since 2022.
  • In April, nearly 550,000 people were newly supported with access to a safe water supply and sanitation through UNICEF’s assistance to 25 water utilities. In Kherson, solar panels were installed to power borehole systems in Mylove and Velyka Oleksandrivka, enabling a stable, uninterrupted water supply for 6,200 people. In Kharkiv, meanwhile, the delivery of laboratory tools and maintenance equipment helped ensure the continuity of water services for over 50,000 residents.
  • On the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action, UNICEF and its partners launched an explosive ordnance risk education campaign, reaching 1.1 million people.
