UKRAINE SITUATION

The war in Ukraine triggered a major increase in humanitarian needs due the mass internal displacement within Ukraine as well as refugee outflows. By the end of December 2024, 6,303,200 refugees from Ukraine were recorded across Europe, with 6,299,400 registered for asylum, temporary protection or similar national protection schemes. As of the end of December 2024, 3,665,000 people were displaced internally within Ukraine.

In 2024, Regional Refugee Response Plan (RRP) health and mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) partners conducted a regional analysis of the Socio- Economic Insights Survey (SEIS) data from 10 refugee- hosting countries: Bulgaria, Czechia, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Republic of Moldova, Romania, and Slovakia.

The purpose of the analysis was to assess the health and mental health situation of Ukrainian refugees, their access to services, and the barriers they face across countries.

According to the study, 36% of refugee families from Ukraine report at least one member of the household is experiencing a mental health problem that affects their daily life. See the report for more findings.
