RECENT HIGHLIGHTS:

Following attacks on Kyiv in mid-December, UNHCR provided support to affected families. In response to missile strikes on Kyiv on 13 December, UNHCR’s local partner Right to Protection (R2P) enrolled 777 people for multi-purpose cash assistance, while providing legal assistance to affected populations in Dniprovskyi and Darnytskyi, Kyiv. UNHCR partner Rokada provided 32 families with emergency shelter kits, while survivors were also provided with mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS).

In coordination with the Government of Ukraine, and contributing to the broader Ukraine Winter Response Plan, UNHCR’s winterization response targets 900,000 vulnerable, displaced and war-affected people between 1 September 2023 - 29 February 2024. Since 1 September, in line with its 2023-2024 winterization plan, UNHCR has helped:
- 463,627 people in Ukraine with cash support for winter energy needs (surpassing its 450,000 target).
- 76,484 people with essential and winterized non-food items (NFIs), out of 416,000 targeted.
- 8,647 people received heaters, rapid thermal kits or cash assistance to cover rent.
- 17,895 people in collective sites benefitted from care and maintenance interventions.
- 147 generators were distributed across the country to help families and communities stay warm in the face of possible power cuts.
