Ukraine: Project Highlights - Reducing the impact of conflict on the food security and livelihoods of rural households and smallholder farmers in eastern Ukraine (OSRO/UKR/016/JPN)

Objective

To improve the livelihoods and food security of the most vulnerable rural households and small-scale producers.

Activities implemented

• Distributed 550 tonnes of seed potatoes to 11 000 households.
• Distributed 2 058.6 tonnes of animal feed to 11 774 households.
• Distributed 105 000 poultry and 100 tonnes of feed to 4 000 households.
• Distributed 2 191 tonnes of wheat seed, 369 tonnes of soybean seed and 83 tonnes of sunflower seed to 1 982 small-scale agricultural producers.

Results

• Enabled 11 000 households to cultivate 220 ha and produce 5 940 tonnes of potatoes.
• Enabled 11 774 households to protect and improve the health of their livestock.
• Enabled 4 000 households to diversify their sources of livelihoods and access a sustainable supply of eggs and poultry meat.
• Enabled 1 982 small-scale agricultural producers to cultivate 28 990 ha and produce 4 382 tonnes of wheat, 7 380 tonnes of soybean and 31 400 tonnes of sunflower.
• Contributed to improving the livelihoods and food security of the targeted communities, thanks to increased food production capacities.
