Since 29 December 2023 the people of Ukraine have experienced an escalation in airstrikes in densely populated cities and towns across the country, in some cases worsening the humanitarian situation and leaving hundreds of thousands without power and water in harsh winter conditions.

In close collaboration with local health authorities, the Health Cluster continues to monitor daily developments to support the health response. As of 31 January 2024, an estimated 1,471 persons have been reached with humanitarian health assistance in the response.

Since the 29th December intensification of air strikes, 31 attacks on health care have been verified in WHO's Surveillance System for Attacks on Health Care. Furthermore, 1,539 attacks have been verified since the war began on 24 February 2022. Attacks on health care include those against health facilities, health workers, patients, transportation, warehouses, and supplies. These attacks deprive people of their right to health care, endanger health-care providers, and undermine health systems.

The Health Cluster has presence in the affected regions of Dnipropetrovska, Zaporizka, Kharkivska, Odeska, Donetska, Kyiv city, and Lvivska through 102 partners including, 4 UN agencies who are active in 1,595 settlements strengthening the delivery of emergency medical services and integrated primary health care.
