KEY HIGHLIGHTS
- Since 29 December 2023 the people of Ukraine have experienced an escalation in airstrikes in densely populated cities and towns across the country, in some cases worsening the humanitarian situation and leaving hundreds of thousands without power and water in harsh winter conditions.
- According to WHO's Surveillance System for Attacks on Health Care, five attacks impacted health care facilities across Ukraine since the intensification of airstrikes. Attacks on health care include those against health facilities, health workers, patients, transportation, warehouses, and supplies. These attacks deprive people of their right to health care, endanger health-care providers, and undermine health systems.
- The Health Cluster has presence in the affected regions of Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhia, Kharkiv, Odesa, Donestk, Kyiv, and Lviv through 102 partners including, 4 UN agencies who are active in 1'595 settlements strengthening the delivery of emergency medical services and integrated primary health care.
- Through close collaboration with local health authorities and subnational inter-cluster coordination, the Health Cluster is monitoring daily developments of Health needs and the response.
- The information on Health Cluster partners' response to winter attacks is based on data submitted to the cluster as of 04 January 2024, and will be updated based on information received on a rolling basis.
