UKRAINE ON ITS WAY TO ZERO GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE
“Ukraine is an example of a country in the region of Eastern Europe and Central Asia that has been successfully combating domestic violence. It is important to maintain a given direction of movement, and then Ukraine can become such an example for the whole world,” — Ian Mc- Farlane, UNFPA Regional Director (a.i.) Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
On February 20-21, the International Forum "On the Way to Zero Gender based violence in Ukraine" brought together all national and regional actors to discuss results and proirities in fighting with domestic and gender-based violence in Ukraine. Government of Ukraine plans to achieve intolerance to any manifestation of domestic violence and prevent it in the future.
Over the last 5 years, new legislation has been adopted in Ukraine that has made it possible to respond effectively to domestic violence cases, create service models of assistance and referrals.
“For the first time in the history of Ukraine, a state hotline 1547 has been launched for survivors of domestic violence, gender-based violence, violence against children and human trafficking.
The line is still in pilot mode, but has already received more than 1,200 calls,” — said Minister of Social Policy, Yulia Sokolovska.
