Zolote, a town in Popasna raion of Luhansk region, is only a few tens of kilometres away from the contact line.
After the examination, the patient's electrocardiogram showed signs of a large-focal myocardial infarction. Most likely, the pain in the heart was its consequence. Mobile clinic immediately took the man to the central raion hospital of Popasna for further examination and treatment. “I don’t know how my situation would have ended had I not received the assistance from the mobile clinic’s doctors on time. I am endlessly grateful to the doctors,” shares Yevhenii.
From July to November 2020, two UNFPA mobile clinics served in Avdiivka city, Bakhmut and Yasynuvata raions of Donetsk region and Popasna, Novoaidar and Stanytsia-Luhanska raions of Luhansk region. Mobile clinics conducted 7,964 examinations, including 3,298 elderly people, 395 people with disabilities and 113 children in 58 rural settlements, where there is no specialised healthcare assistance. As a result, in 73% of cases, people were diagnosed for the first time. 20% of them required immediate medical treatment, including surgery.
Mobile clinics provided vital medical assistance and ensured timely prevention of terminal diseases of residents of settlements along the contact line and remote areas of eastern Ukraine. This outreach support was critical for the vulnerable population that is particularly at risk during the COVID-19 pandemic.
