Firefighting operations are ongoing in Luhansk Oblast, eastern Ukraine. 20,000 hectares and up to 32 locations are affected, including along the line of contact between Ukrainian and separatist armed forces. 11 people died as a result, 18 are injured and hundreds have been displaced and/or evacuated to safer locations. According to official estimates, at least 550 houses were destroyed or damaged, some public health facilities have also been affected. Gas, water and electricity supplies have been disrupted. In Syrotyne, where DG ECHO's partner People in Need (PIN) is active, local volunteers, composed of some internally displaced people (IDPs) are providing assistance by donating and distributing clothes, food, hygiene items, water and hot meals. PIN is coordinating its response with partners from the DG ECHO-funded consortium composed of Medicos del Mundo(MdM), ACTED and Righ to Protection (R2P) - to meet basic and urgent needs and provide legal assistance and psychosocial support.
