Across the region, UNFPA and its partners trained over 1,000 people to enhance sexual and reproductive health services while over 350 people were trained to enhance gender-based violence services.

UNFPA and its partners distributed over 5,870 dignity kits as a first entry-point for further services and assistance.

UNFPA continues to support 29 “Vilna” Women-Friendly Spaces across Ukraine, 28 Safe Spaces across Moldova, including eight Mobile Safe Spaces, and four Safe Spaces in Romania to conduct outreach activities targeting the refugees and host communities. UNFPA supports Safe Spaces dedicated to women, youth and older persons.
Situation Overview/Humanitarian Needs

As of June 2023, an estimated 6.3 million people have been forced to flee Ukraine. An additional 5.1 million are internally displaced.

Inside Ukraine, an estimated 14.6 million people need health assistance. 14.7 million people require protection assistance and services; out of which, 3.6 million people will need gender-based violence (GBV) prevention and response services. The response aims to assist at least 1 million women and girls across the country.

In Ukraine, in the last two months, 6 attacks on health care have been documented via the WHO’s Surveillance System for Attacks on Health Care (SSA), bringing the total number of attacks since 24 February 2022 to 1,067.

On 6 June 2023, the destruction of the Kakhovka Dam caused massive floods, leaving behind an unconfirmed number of civilians killed and injured, forcibly displacing thousands and potentially affecting 100,000 inhabitants directly. This disaster has significantly worsened the already dire humanitarian situation in Kherson and Mykolaiv regions.
