EMERGENCY OVERVIEW
In August, Ukraine faced a relentless barrage of missile and drone attacks, resulting in civilian casualties and property damage. Of the 165 missiles and 231 Iranian-made drones launched by the Russian Federation, 96 and 150 were intercepted by Ukrainian air defenses, respectively. This indiscriminate violence escalated over the past two months, causing widespread death, destruction and population displacement, notably in regions like Kupiansk. On August 10, an attack in Zaporizka oblast killed one person and injured 16 others when an Iskander missile struck a hotel popular with humanitarian aid workers. This attack was notable for employing a "double tap" strategy—the first missile caused injuries, and a second one targeted emergency responders, to increase casualties.
