Germany contributes €2 million to the CEB’s Ukraine Solidarity Fund in support of reconstruction efforts

Paris - The €2 million contribution from the Government of Germany to the Ukraine Solidarity Fund, a trust fund managed by the CEB, will help improve the living conditions of Ukrainians during winter as well as support reconstruction efforts, including by financing light and medium repairs to individual homes damaged by the war.

The contribution is part of Germany's broader commitment to providing a protective shield* to address the needs of Ukraine and its people during the coming winter. The new support package includes €200 million for reconstruction efforts.

Germany has a longstanding partnership with the CEB to finance social investments that help improve social cohesion across Europe. It is the Bank's largest donor among its member states, having contributed €22 million in favour of CEB trust funds since 2008.

The German contribution will be held in the Ukraine Solidarity Fund, which the CEB launched in 2022 to address the social impact of the Russian aggression and support the reconstruction of Ukraine. The trust fund already holds €1 million in seed financing from Ireland, which championed its creation as well as an additional contribution from the Czech Republic in 2023.

"Addressing the social impact of the Russian invasion is of paramount importance. That is why we are partnering with the CEB, which has extensive experience in social and humanitarian projects", emphasised Dr. Tobias Lindner, Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office.

"The generous contribution from Germany will enable the CEB to do more for Ukraine. We look forward to expanding our cooperation with the Ukrainian authorities to address the country's pressing social and reconstruction needs." added Carlo Monticelli, Governor of the CEB.
