From 30 June to 06 July 2023, based on incident-specific English-language reporting, AOAV has recorded 137 incidents of explosive violence around the world, and 568 reported casualties. 448, or 79% of those casualties have been civilian casualties.

Air-launched weapons caused 10% of civilian casualties.

Ground-launched weapons caused 64% of civilian casualties.

Improvised Explosive Devices caused 10% of civilian casualties.

Mines explosive weapons caused 2% of civilian casualties.

Combined explosive weapons caused 2% of civilian casualties.

Over the past week, non-state actors were the reported perpetrators of 22% of recorded incidents of explosive violence, and state actors of 72%.

Non-state actors were also the reported perpetrators of 19% of civilian casualties this week, and state actors of 77%.

From 30 June to 06 July 2023, AOAV recorded incidents of explosive violence across 17 countries and territories. The most affected countries and territories for civilian casualties of explosive violence this week were Ukraine, the West Bank, and Nigeria.

In Ukraine, AOAV recorded 75 incidents of explosive violence and 278 civilian casualties this week. The highest casualty incident occurred on 05 July 2023, when 10 civilians were killed, including one woman, and 42 injured including a child, in a Russian missile strike on an apartment in Lviv.

In the West Bank, AOAV recorded 5 incidents of explosive violence this week, which caused 33 civilian casualties. The highest casualty incident took place on 03 July 2023, when two civilians and five armed actors were killed, and 28 people injured in an Israeli drone strike and ground raid on a refugee camp in Jenin.

In Nigeria this week, AOAV recorded 3 incidents of explosive violence, and 32 civilian casualties. The highest casualty incident occurred on 30 June 2023, when six civlians were killed and 20 injured, as well as two defence volunteers, when Boko Haram shelled areas of Damboa, Borno.
