According to reports from cluster partners a school bus which was transporting more than 30 children from school was evacuated during shelling at around 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 12 in Zaitseve village (outskirts of Gorlivka, Donetska NGCA). The children were safely evacuated to the nearest safe place and no causalities among children were reported.
Since the start of 2018 it is the fourth serious incident related to attacks on education which puts the lives of children at risk and impacts their access to education. Earlier this year 2 schools were damaged in Donetska NGCA and 1 kindergarten in Luhanska GCA as a result of continuing hostilities along the contact line.
In 2017, at least 64 educational facilities directly impacted, out of which 42 damaged by conflict, and 22 forced to temporarily close, disrupting education for days or weeks for at least 6,500 children in Eastern Ukraine.
