Activity Report: St. Michael’s Center for Medical and Social Rehabilitation of Children (Ukraine) – August - November 2025
In Ukraine’s Transcarpathia region that borders Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, and Romania, one organization that actively supports children with disabilities is St. Michael’s Center for Medical and Social Rehabilitation of Children.
AMDA has been providing aid to St. Michael’s through various forms, mainly donating medical goods, cleaning equipment, and fuel required for running power generators.
The power generators remain especially crucial for people in the region where planned outages continue. Depending on the day, they must endure 10 to 12 hours without electricity. This has similarly affected some of the center’s activities, leading to the suspension of children’s aquatic therapy at its indoor swimming pool. For now, they have somewhat managed to continue physiotherapy programs thanks to the generators.
AMDA is also reaching out to the center’s patients and evacuees in financially difficult circumstances. One recent example is a parent and a child who ended up seeking shelter at the center for three weeks. Although they had initially visited the facility for treatment from the eastern city of Donetsk, they were forced to remain evacuated after their house was destroyed during heavy bombings in October. Until they returned home, AMDA’s funding helped cover their living costs.
Other than the above, the below activities are what St. Michael’s and AMDA have jointly carried out to help those in need.
1) Providing food items to two local organizations delivering free meals: Their beneficiaries include people who are bed-ridden, the elderly, children, and those who cannot assist themselves for various reasons. All of them are suffering from recent price hikes stemming from this humanitarian crisis.
2) Donating expensive drugs to four patients suffering from an autoimmune disease and malignant tumors: One of the patients, who was once bed-ridden, expressed gratitude for the assistance after recovering to the point where one could walk again using a walker.
3) Offering cold medicines for free in preparation for the cold winter:
