AMDA has been providing aid to the people of Ukraine who have been persevering through extremely challenging circumstances due to the ongoing crisis that began in late February 2022.
Working hand in hand with partner organizations in Ukraine and neighboring Hungary, AMDA is doing its best to meet the humanitarian needs of affected communities during these difficult times.
One of them is Dynasty Medical Center based in Kharkiv, a major city in northeastern Ukraine, located near the Russian border. The facility, which specializes in otolaryngology, has been accepting patients from both local and remote areas. The hospital also aims to serve patients who are unable to afford medical bills.
To sustain the hospital’s medical services, AMDA has been donating medicines and other medical supplies that include anti-cancer drugs, antibiotics, analgesics, injection syringes, intratracheal tubes, paper napkins, and nitrile gloves.
Between February and May 2025, each month, the hospital handled approximately 10 cases of surgeries and 30 cases of medical consultations, CT scans, ultrasounds, and blood tests, all offered for free.
In an online meeting with the center’s director in May, she said there has been large-scale drone attacks every night in Kharkiv since the beginning of the month, whose scenes “evoke that of a horror movie.”
On the other hand, the director said the direct damage to the city center has been less severe, noting that residents have been quick to respond to any destruction caused by the attacks by swiftly patching up buildings and infrastructure. For instance, broken windows have been replaced with new ones just a day after the attacks.
Despite these challenging circumstances, people who had once sought refuge in other cities and abroad have started returning to Kharkiv. The hospital director explained that “it is completely natural for them to come back to their hometown regardless of the circumstances.” As a sidenote, she said that residents from surrounding areas tend to seek shelter in central Kharkiv because of its robust emergency infrastructure.
During the meeting, the clinic shared the cases of two cancer patients who were being treated there.
A family member of one of the patients, who joined the session, gave the following comment: “I’ve been tearful because I feel grateful that my husband has been able to survive thanks to AMDA’s continuous support. Words cannot fully express my gratitude.”
“AMDA’s help is like a torch for all of us, not just for ordinary people but also for medical professionals,” the director said. “It truly gives us hope.”
For now, AMDA will continue to provide aid to those withstanding the test of time.
