Highlights

  • On 2 August 2024, the Uganda Ministry of Health (MoH) confirmed an mpox outbreak. As of December 29, 2024, the cumulative confirmed cases were 1,126, with a case fatality rate (CFR) of 0.5 percent.
  • At the end of Dec 2024, the registered refugee and asylum seeker population registered in Uganda was 1,796,609. Women and children represented 79 per cent of the refugees and asylum seekers.
  • In 2024 a total of 413,756 individuals, (including 35 per cent children), have been affected by hydro-meteorological hazards in 31 districts across Uganda.
  • As of end of December, UNICEF and partners provided 83,526 children affected by crisis with access to formal and non-formal education, including early learning and over 58,900 women, girls, and boys, with access to gender-based violence risk mitigation, prevention, and/or response interventions.
  • In 2024, over 33,200 children 6-59 months with severe wasting affected by humanitarian crisis were admitted for treatment.
  • 152,155 children had been vaccinated against measles, supplemental dose and over 123,000 people had been provided with access to a sufficient quantity and quality of water for drinking and domestic needs.
  • In responding to the Mpox outbreak, UNICEF reached over 7.3 million with Mpox messages on prevention and access to services (children, adolescents, parents/caregivers, leaders).
