Uganda: Quality health care vital for development

Lorna Crosse International Ministries based in California in the United States of America has donated medical equipment and scholastic materials worth US$100,000 to Uganda to help improve access to quality medical services and education to people especially those in the rural areas.

The donation was announced by Rev. Dr. Lorna Crosse founder and Chief Executive Officer of Lorna Crosse International Ministries who was a guest during the opening of Kanzize Kyondo Health Centre in Masulita sub-county, Wakiso district. During her stay in the country, Rev. Dr. Lorna Crosse will visit people living in the Internally Displaced People's Camps in Northern Uganda to access how to help improve their situation.

The Vice President Prof. Gilbert Bukenya who presided over the opening of the health centre said that it is crucial for people to first access quality medical services before they can effectively engage other productive activities for their wellbeing.

'The NRM realised the need to boost production by starting with improving the health of the people hence the programme to construct a health centre at every parish. Residents of Kanzize approached me and requested for a health centre so I solicited for funds from friends and have now been able to put up the facility," the Vice President said.

Prof. Bukenya urged the people of the area and Ugandan to elect President Yoweri Museveni to be able to further develop their area and the country in general.

The Vice President expressed his happiness to see that Kanzize people will now be able to access education and medical care in immunisation, vaccination, hygiene and diet information to lead comfortable lives.

Prof. Bukenya thanked Lorna Crosse International Ministries for the medical assortment of which Kanzize Kyondo will benefit from and proposed that the health centre be named Lorna Crosse Health Centre 11.

Rev. Dr. Lorna Crosse who hails from a nursing background said that she was concerned about the living conditions of people in Africa hence the tireless efforts to mobilise material and financial resources to improve their lives.

She said that her Lorna Crosse International Ministries will work will the area Member of Parliament, Prof. Gilbert Bukenya to help bring safe drinking water to the area.

Wakiso Director of Health Services, who was represented by Dr. Francis Mbarire Kasozi thanked the Vice President for his continuing interest to avail better medical facilities for the people of Wakiso and the income generating projects that he has started for them. He commended his friendship with foreign nationals who have helped in equipping the health centre in the area.
