Uganda: President commissions Busiro Radio 107.5FM

President Yoweri Museveni has said that the strategic goal of the National Resistance Movement currently is to modernise the country and eliminate poverty through Bonna bagagawale (enrich all), Bonna bagemebwe (immunise all) and Bonna basome (educate all) porgammes.

The President who commissioned Radio Busiro 107.5FM in Kakiri town in Wakiso district yesterday, said that the programmes will cater for the future rapid economic growth and livelihood of the country.

He emphasised the need for Ugandans in diversify production to ensure that each homestead gets at least shs.20million annually.

"Government has done its part in providing road, water, health and other development infrastructure. What remains is to get to rid poverty by having each person to participate in viable ventures now that the country has been zoned" he said.

President Museveni commended Prof. Bukenya and other leaders in Wakiso district leaders for helping rid their area of poverty by encouraging the fast maturing and high yielding upland rice. He advised them to include vanilla, arabica coffee, fruits and dairy farming for better income generation.

"This arrangement will encourage commercial farming rather than subsistence farming and encourage people to progress by paying fees for their children and improving their housing conditions," Mr. Museveni said.

He commended the proprietors of Radio Busiro FM to starting the station with the sole objective of educating the masses and guiding them into viable economic ventures.

Ms.Georgina Nabukenya, Director of the radio station said that the US$30,000dollars used to set up the venture was a result of savings the Vice President's children. She said that that the radio covers a radius of 360km. It targets listeners in Kampala, Wakiso, Kiboga, Hoima, Masindi, Kalangala and Rakai districts. ..End.
