There has been more refugee influx in Adjumani district from South Sudan in the month of May. 923 refugees arrived in the district on 24th May 2012 mainly through Elegu border. Majority of the refugees are women and children.

According to Office of Prime Minister, 205 refugees were granted refugee status and taken to Alere Primary School as 718 were still at the reception Centre in Dzaipi registering and undergoing screening for granting refugees status.

The Uganda Red Cross Society Adjumani Branch is supporting government to register the refugees.

The Branch Manager Stephen Inyani says there are 19 child headed households with 38 Unaccompanied Minors both in the settlements and at the reception Centre. Seven people with special needs especially disability and mental health problems have also been identified.

However, in April only ten families of 45 family members were registered with two separated children received. These were among the first refugees who were transferred to Alere Primary School by the UNHCR and Office of Prime Minister.
