Landslides have killed 30 people and displaced 2,500 in Uganda's eastern region of Mbale. Flooding has been reported in the eastern districts of Tororo, Bugiri and Pallisa, as well as in the western part of the country. In Bundibugyo district an estimated 1,000 people have been displaced and crops and properties have been destroyed. The Nile river burst its banks last week, displacing hundreds of people in the Nebbi district in northwestern Uganda. UNDP and other UN agencies are monitoring the situation and helping assess damages as heavy rains in eastern Africa spread to Uganda. between Ethiopia, Somalia and Kenya is only accessible by air.
