Koenders gives Uganda extra money

Speaking in Uganda, development minister Bert Koenders announced his intention to make extra money available for the peace process in that country.

Some of the money will be go to northern Uganda, where the rebel Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) has been terrorising the population for many years. The Netherlands has already provided one million euros to support peace talks between the LRA and the Ugandan government.

Mr Koenders plans to double this amount. He also plans to provide five million euros to help reconstruct northern Uganda, on condition that the Ugandan government first produces a feasible reconstruction plan.
