Lwakhakha, Uganda, Mar. 08, 2010. The Kenyan Government has extended humanitarian assistance to Bududa landslide victims in Uganda. Western Provincial Commissioner Samuel Kilele today represented the Vice President Mr. Kalonzo Musyoka in handing over a consignment of relief assistance worth Sh13.5million from the Kenyan Government to the Uganda government to assist the landslide victims. ''Our VP could have been here with us today but because of circumstances which could not be avoided he was not able to arrive,'' said Mr. Kilele.
Mr. Kilele told a huge crowd at Lwakhakha on the border point of the two countries that the Kenyan Government was committed to providing humanitarian assistance to the families which had been affected by the landslides.The PC flagged off trucks of vehicles carrying the relief supplies which included 63 tones of maize, 30 tones of beans and 10 tones among others which will cater for the needs of the victims for two months.
Uganda Prime Minister Prof Apolo Nzibambi thanked the Kenyan Government for the support, saying that it showed the cordial relations between the two sister countries.Saboti MP Eugene Wamalwa said it was encouraging that the two countries were working together in ensuring that problems facing the residents were resolved collectively.Present were senior government officials, church and political leaders from the two countries.
