Kasese floods: River Nyamwamba banks burst again, camp set up for displaced persons

River Nyambwamba banks burst again, displacing more people in Kasese. Over the weekend, Office of Prime Minister, Uganda Red Cross, District authorities, Police evacuated people from their homes to avoid any further catastrophe.

A camp has been set up at Kasese Primary School where 810 people have been registered. Aside from Nyamwamba and Bulembia divisions, seven other sub counties in the district have also been flooded. Minister of State for Disaster Preparedness Musa Ecweru visited the area last week.

These are Karusandara, Maliba, Bugoye, Bwisumbu, Kyabalungira, Kitswamba and Kyalumba. Initial reports by the Red Cross indicate that about 9, 000-11, 000 people have been affected in district.

On Saturday, Office of Prime Minister and Red Cross distributed relief items and food to about 432 families. The Red Cross is looking out to its partners to support these interventions.
