Operational Updates
- In July, under the In-camp E-voucher Programme, WFP and the Turkish Red Crescent (TRC) assisted 33,672 beneficiaries (7,836 households) in six refugee camps with an e-voucher of Turkish lira (TRY) 300 (USD 9) per person per month to meet their food and non-food needs. The e-vouchers are redeemable at contracted markets in the camps.
- WFP and its cooperating partner, the Association for Social Development and Aid Mobilization (ASAM), launched a multi-purpose cash programme to assist earthquake-affected Syrian refugees in Hilalkent Container City in the southern province of Hatay starting in August 2024. Beneficiaries will receive TRY 500 (USD 15) per person per month to meet their basic needs.
- Under the Earthquake Recovery Programme, aiming to restore and revitalize the local food value chain disrupted by the February 2023 earthquakes, a wide range of activities were implemented in July in various cities to assist earthquake-affected refugees and members of the host community :
- In Hatay, under the project with the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) in Altinozu District, seven Syrian Cashfor-Work (CFW) participants have begun two months of employment on the agricultural lands of two farmers, receiving minimum wage. In Samandag District, under the project with World Vision, 100 small farmers were selected for agriculture training aimed at restoring the fruit and vegetable value chain.
- In Adiyaman, WFP and the International Migration and Solidarity Association (UGDD) provided 49 small farmers with seeds and seedlings which helped them to harvest agricultural produce, including peppers, cucumbers, parsley, and eggplants, and sell them at local markets.
- In Kahramanmaras, under the project with DRC aiming to restore the dairy supply chain, 19 dairy farmers and processors received “business restoration proposal writing” training to help them grow their businesses. They will then submit proposals to become eligible to receive dairy equipment under the assistance program. The four day training achieved full participation. Under the project with the Association of Assistance, Solidarity and Support with Refugees and Asylum Seekers (YSYD), 17 dairy farmers in Kahramanmaras were selected to receive a long-term asset grant package, which included livestock, milking machine, churning equipment to support their work.
