On 20 February, a second 6.3 Richter magnitude earthquake struck southern Türkiye near the Syrian border, with its epicentre in Hatay province. The aftershock compounded the already dire situation on the ground, where rapid upscaling of humanitarian support is needed.

On 20 February, the Logistics Sector Coordinator deployed to Ankara as part of the establishment of the national Sector Coordination Mechanism at central level. The Logistics Sector established a coordination cell in Ankara to liaise with relevant government officials, and at the same time has continued to run its operations out of Gaziantep, in coordination with OCHA’s On-Site Operations Coordination Centre (OSOCC).

Logistics Sector Team is liaising with sub-OSOCCs for logistics capacity needs and gaps assessment in the earthquake-affected areas of Adiyaman, Hatay, Kharamanmaras and Malatya.

Weekly coordination meetings on 22 and 28 February were held at Ankara level to discuss sector initiatives at central level. Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure has been identified as the Logistics Sector’s main counterpart for the earthquake response and has been invited to attend these meetings.

In Gaziantep meetings have been held three times a week until 24 February, and it was then agreed with partners to reduce the frequency to twice a week as of 28 February.

On 22 February, the Logistics Sector participated to the first coordination meeting in hybrid format in Adiyaman.

On 25 February, the Logistics Sector participated to the humanitarian partners coordination meeting in Hatay and discussed possible logistical support with UN agencies and INGOs on the ground.

On 26 February, the Logistics Emergency Team (LET), comprised of four of the largest global logistics and transportation companies (Agility, UPS, Maersk, and DP World) enabled the airlift of 20 Mobile Storage Units (MSUs) from UNHRD Brindisi to Incirlik airport in coordination with the Logistics Cluster.
The MSUs will be used in key locations affected by the earthquake. -
On 1 March, the Logistics Sector travelled to Adiyaman on 1 March to assess needs and possible areas of support needed in coordination with government authorities.
