Several wildfires have been burning across eastern Türkiye, particularly the Aegean coast of the Izmir city area, since 27 June, forcing evacuations and causing widespread damage.
Due to the forest fires, more than 50,000 people have been affected and relocated to safe areas, and a total of 56 settlements have been impacted. Izmir Airport is currently active and operating.
According to the Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change, a total of 114 buildings - 110 of which are residential - were severely damaged in Bornova, Gaziemir, and Seferihisar.
Over the next 48 hours, according to the European Forest Fire Information System (JRC EFFIS), the fire danger forecast is expected to be from high to very extreme in the affected area.
