Situation Update
Some 87,000 Malatya residents who had left the province after the earthquakes have reportedly returned, with the number of people living in tents increasing and creating additional needs and pressure on services.
According to authorities, all formal tent cities and informal tent areasd will be closed by end of July 2023. Hot meal distribution will be phased out by end of the july and people will be supported with kitchen sets and food packages to allow transition to independent cooking. The authorities are consolidating informal and formal tent sites to provide better services, while moving people to container cities. According to local government sources, an estimated 3,100 refugees are in the tent settlements and an estimated 7,000 refugees¹ living in containers.
Partners are engaging with refugees and other communities regarding relocation.
