Türkiye – Earthquake (GDACS, USGS, CatNat, media) (ECHO Daily Flash of 26 July 2023)

  • An earthquake of 5.5 M at a depth of 10 km occurred in the Adana Province, south-eastern Türkiye, on 25 July at 07:44 UTC (08.44 local time). The epicentre was located in the Kozan City, approximately 65 km nort-eastern of Adana City.
  • Several aftershocks with magnitude between 3 M and 3.2 M have been recorded in the area in the following 15 minutes.
  • USGS PAGER estimates that up to 1,000 people were exposed to strong shaking and 128,000 to moderate shaking.
  • According to the Health Disaster and Coordination Centre (SAKOM), five people have been injured and some buildings were damaged.
  • The seismic event was felt also in the Kahramanmaras and Gaziantep Provinces, Southeastern Anatolia Region, which were the epicenter of the severe earthquakes occured on 6 Frebruary that caused more than 57,000 fatalities across Türkiye an Syria.
