Public Health Advices for Asbestos [EN/TR/AR]

Attachments

Asbestos, which can be found in debris of destroyed buildings, is dangerous to human health and can cause cancer and other diseases.

In the aftermath of the earthquakes, please stay away from the demolition sites to avoid exposure to asbestos.

People who work in debris removal are at a higher risk for exposure.

In order to minimize the risks, please:

  • Learn about asbestos, its health risks, and effects, and follow the rules for handling asbestos-containing building materials when demolishing destroyed buildings and houses

  • Get started after trained staff have inspected places where asbestos-containing materials may be available

  • Use personal protective equipment properly. Make sure that respirators (like FFP2) are well-fitted and changed as often as needed

  • If it is necessary to move, cut or break asbestos-containing materials, keep them thoroughly moist to reduce the amount of air fiber and dust

  • Try to keep any manipulations with asbestos-containing materials to a minimum

  • Wash your hands before eating or drinking; perhaps take a shower before returning home

  • If possible, use single-use full body work suit and dispose after your work shift ends

  • If not, clean your full body work clothes daily after the work shift is completed whilst wearing your mask, and do not bring work clothes home even for washing
