The President of AFAD Yunus Sezer made investigations in Ordu after the excessive rainfalls

Making investigations in Ordu due to the excessive rainfalls that occurred in Ordu last night, The President of AFAD Yunus Sezer stated that the damage assessment teams of AFAD are currently working in the region. Sezer noted that they will heal the wounds of the citizens as soon as possible.

Making investigations in the flooded Bülbül Stream together with The Governor of Ordu, Tuncay Sonel and the Mayor of Ordu Metropolitan Municipality, Mehmet Hilmi Güler, Yunus Sezer said that the President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya have instructed them to provide all kinds of support and assistance. Sezer stressed that they will fulfill this as soon as possible.

Stating that 130 kilograms of precipitation has been received, Yunus Sezer explained that nearly a thousand landslides occurred in the Black Sea Region. Underlining that the AFAD response teams continue their work throughout Ordu, in the affected areas of settlements in particular, Sezer said that all efforts will be carried out as fast as possible to prevent citizens from suffering.

Reminding that a citizen disappeared in Samsun yesterday, Mr. Sezer said that search and rescue efforts continued until this morning. Stating that they found the body of the citizen this morning, Sezer wished Allah’s mercy upon him and expressed his condolences to his relatives.

Reminding that the Directorate General of Meteorology has issued orange-coded warnings to 15 provinces, Sezer stated that they are following all the updates in line with the Directorate General of Meteorology. Noting that the AFAD crisis centers, especially the authorities, the governors, the mayors and department heads are actively working, Sezer said that precautions have been taken by dispatching construction equipment to risky areas. Noting that they kept their aircraft at the search and rescue point against possible troubles, Sezer said that they rescued citizens who were stuck in Şile yesterday and continued their rescue activities cautiously in the region with the Coast Guard’s helicopter.

Emphasizing that the orange-coded warning will continue to be issued in some provinces tomorrow, Sezer stated that they sent an SMS to everyone. Warning the citizens in the area where the orange coded warning was issued, to pay attention to the warnings and to stay away from the overflowed streams beds and similar areas that pose a risk, conveyed his get well soon wishes and said that they will heal the wounds as soon as possible.

Stating that they are actively working with 350 construction machines and 1 thousand 100 Municipality personnel, Sezer noted that the Gendarmerie, the Security department, The General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSİ), General Directorate of Highways teams and volunteers continue to work intensively in the field.

Pointing out that the measures taken against such disasters enable them to overcome these crises with less impact, AFAD President Sezer said that they consulted with both the Governor and the Mayor about the overflowing parts of the stream bed. Emphasizing the importance of reducing the risk and taking the necessary measures to prevent future flooding in the overflowing parts of this stream, Sezer said that they will present the situation to the Director General of DSİ and the Ministers regarding this issue and that the necessary measures will be taken in the light of consultations.

Stating that there are excessive rains throughout the province, Governor of Ordu Tuncay Sonel announced that the Altınordu district received 92 kilogram rainfall per square meter, Perşembe received 130 kilograms rainfall per square meter and Fatsa received 120 kilogram per square meter. Sonel stated that Bülbül Stream overflowed and the rainfall damaged the tradesmen and workplaces. Sonel added that the houses were also flooded due to the excessive rainfalls.

Emphasizing that they started to heal the wounds quickly, Sonel said that the absence of loss of life was their greatest consolation. Sonel said that 350 workplaces, 32 residences and 35 vehicles have been damaged by the flood as of now. Stressing that all teams have started damage assessment studies, Sonel noted that the destruction of the flood was repaired in a short time. Sonel emphasized that the state and AFAD will strongly try to cover the damage of Ordu province in unity.

Stating that the traffic is open with a single lane on the Ordu-Giresun coastal road since last night, Sonel announced that the road was opened to traffic in both directions as a result of the efforts of the Highways and Metropolitan Municipality teams. Sonel said that the Altınordu-Perşembe coastal road will be opened to traffic as soon as possible.

Sonel also informed that the AFAD teams rescued the two trapped citizens, Hüseyin Topuz (66) who was slightly injured in his arm and Hacer Şensoy (78), was rescued unharmed and taken to a safe place.
