About the Earthquake in Kahramanmaraş - 35

Two earthquakes measuring 7.7 and 7.6 on the Richter scale took place in Pazarcık and Elbistan, Kahramanmaraş on February 6, 2023. A total of 9,136 aftershocks occurred.

According to initially available information, 44, 218 people have lost their lives in Kahramanmaraş, Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa, Diyarbakır, Adana, Adıyaman, Osmaniye, Hatay, Kilis and Malatya and Elazığ.

528,146 people have been evacuated from Kahramanmaraş, Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa, Diyarbakır, Adana, Adıyaman, Osmaniye, Hatay, Kilis, Malatya and Elazığ.

239,977 search and rescue workers from AFAD, JÖAK, DİSAK, PAK, Gendarmerie, DAK, Ministry of National Defense, UMKE, Ambulance staff, Fire Department, Ministry of National Education, Güven, NGOs, Security Units and Local Support Teams and international search and rescue teams, including 3,455 Volunteers have been working on the field.

A total of 13,224 vehicles, including construction equipment including excavators, tractors, cranes, dozers, trucks, water tenders, trailers, graders and vacuum trucks have been deployed to the affected areas and continue to work in the field.

38 governors and more than 160 Local Authority and 68 provincial directors and 19 top AFAD directors have been assigned to disaster areas. An additional 29 personnel from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were assigned to the region for the coordination of international aid.

An air bridge has been built for the deployment of personnel and equipment. A total of 13,177 sorties have been made with 116 helicopters and 78 aircraft from The Air, Land and Naval Forces, the Gendarmerie, the Coast Guard, the Turkish Police, the Ministry of Health and The Directorate General of Forestry.

A total of 38 ships, by the Naval Forces, and the Coast Guard Command were employed to deliver personnel and materials to the affected area.

Disaster Sheltering Group

335, 382 tents sent by the Ministries, relevant institutions, organizations and foreign countries and international organizations have been installed in the region. Container city installations continue in 10 provinces at 130 points.

In the disaster area and outside the disaster area, a total of 1,914,292 people are provided with accommodation in tents, containers, dormitories under the Ministry of Youth and Sports, hotels, public guesthouses, MEB facilities and other facilities.

Disaster Nourishment Group

The Turkish Red Crescent, AFAD, the Ministry of National Defense, the Gendarmerie and NGOs sent 370 mobile kitchens.

72,665,488 units of hot meal, 11,117,619 units of soup, 14,359,253 lunch boxes and packaged food, 30,769,431 liters of water, 79,428,296 pieces of bread, and 4,183,160 units of beverage were distributed to the quake-hit areas.

Disaster Psychosocial Support Group

4 mobilized Social Service Centers are charged in Kahramanmaraş, Hatay, Osmaniye, and Malatya provinces. 3,410 personnel have been transferred to the earthquake zone, 3 thousand 585 personnel and 1 thousand 565 vehicles were dispatched outside the earthquake zone. A total of 911,942 people, 614,993 in the earthquake zone and 296,949 outside the earthquake zone have received psychosocial support.
