AFAD Press Bulletin about the Earthquake in Kahramanmaraş - 34 [EN/TR]

Two earthquakes measuring 7.7 and 7.6 on the Richter scale took place in Pazarcık and Elbistan, Kahramanmaraş on February 6, 2023. A total of 7,184 aftershocks occurred.

According to initially available information, 42, 310 people have lost their lives in Kahramanmaraş, Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa, Diyarbakır, Adana, Adıyaman, Osmaniye, Hatay, Kilis and Malatya and Elazığ. 448,010 people have been evacuated from the earthquake zone.

242,392 search and rescue workers from AFAD, JÖAK, DİSAK, PAK, Gendarmerie, DAK, Ministry of National Defense, UMKE, Ambulance staff, Fire Department, Ministry of National Education, Güven, NGOs, Security Units and Local Support Teams and international search and rescue teams, including 5,396 Volunteers have been working on the field.

A total of 13,700 vehicles, including construction equipment including excavators, tractors, cranes, dozers, trucks, water tenders, trailers, graders and vacuum trucks have been deployed to the affected areas and continue to work in the field.

38 governors and more than 160 Local Authority and 68 provincial directors and 19 top AFAD directors have been assigned to disaster areas. In addition, 12 ambassadors and 15 personnel from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were assigned to the region for the coordination of international aid.

An air bridge has been built for the deployment of personnel and equipment. A total of 11,907 sorties have been made with 116 helicopters and 78 aircraft from The Air, Land and Naval Forces, the Gendarmerie, the Coast Guard, the Turkish Police, the Ministry of Health and The Directorate General of Forestry.

A total of 38 ships, by the Naval Forces, and the Coast Guard Command were employed to deliver personnel and materials to the affected area.

Disaster Sheltering Group

A total of 3,354,316 blankets were sent to the 10 quake-hit provinces. 301, 289 tents sent by the Ministries, relevant institutions, organizations and foreign countries and international organizations have been installed in the region. A total of 6.375 containers have been installed in the region. Temporary accommodation services and 79,720 accommodation materials were provided to 78,500 people by the Directorate of Religious Affairs.

Disaster Nourishment Group

The Turkish Red Crescent, AFAD, the Ministry of National Defense, the Gendarmerie, Humanitarian Relief Foundation and foundations of Hayrat, Beşir and İnisiyatif sent 375 mobile kitchens, 86 catering vehicles, 40 mobile ovens and 361 service vehicles to the quake-hit areas. 2,179,630 nutrition services were provided by the Directorate of Religious Affairs.

55,785,367 units of hot meal, 9,487,845 units of soup, 13,465,878 groceries and packaged food, 27,059,350 liters of water, 60,377,166 pieces of bread, and 3,189,954 units of beverage were distributed to the quake-hit areas.

Disaster Psychosocial Support Group

4 mobilized Social Service Centers are charged in Kahramanmaraş, Hatay, Osmaniye, and Malatya provinces. 3,099 personnel have been transferred to the earthquake zone, 3 thousand 362 personnel and 1 thousand 519 vehicles were dispatched outside the earthquake zone. A total of 698,244 people, 497,093 in the earthquake zone and 201,151 outside the earthquake zone have received psychosocial support.
