● On 27 August, AFAD, the Disaster and Emergency Management Agency of Turkey's Government, announced that the total number of Syrians registered and assisted in the 22 camps located in 10 provinces was 219,369. AFAD reported that from 26 to 27 August, a total of 1,062 Syrians were admitted and registered in the camps and 668 Syrians have voluntarily returned to Syria.

● Ceylanpinar camp management informed UNHCR that part of a group brought from Akcakale town did not want to stay in the waiting area and left to unknown destinations. There are still around eight families (41 individuals) temporarily accommodated in the waiting area waiting to be accommodated in tents (some of which have been identified already). The UNHCR team talked to some of these Syrians and learned that some of them claim to be new-arrivals from Aleppo who came into Turkey through the Kilis border. They also stated they would prefer to be admitted in Ceylanpinar camp because extended family members/relatives living there.

● In Nizip-1 Camp, officials informed UNHCR that they have already registered more than 3,000 school aged children. The camp officials also stated that they have also conducted a screening assessment of the potential teachers among the camp residents and identified 62 teachers (42 men and 20 women) qualified and willing to work as a teachers in the camp. While some were teachers in the past, others have relevant university degrees.

● After strong advocacy from the UNHCR Field team and the support from camp management, the women committee in Altinozu Tekel camp has been re-established. Thirty women were selected as committee members and the first meeting was co-chaired by UNHCR and the camp management. The next meeting was scheduled to take place in the first week of September with two topics: health and hygiene.

● UNICEF informed UNHCR that, under the coordination of AFAD, they are planning to conduct a nutritional assessment of Syrian refugees in Turkey. Reportedly, an assessment team will visit Mardin, Sanliurfa, Hatay, Adana, Mersin and Konya to work with the local officials and conduct the assessment from 01 through 12 September.
