● On 25 May 2014, AFAD - the Disaster and Emergency Management Agency of Government of Turkey - announced that the total number of Syrians registered and assisted in 22 camps located in 10 provinces was 221,061. AFAD reported that during the period of 23-25 May 2014, a total of 2,241 Syrians were admitted and registered in the camps and 1,291 Syrians voluntarily returned to Syria.

● According to the official numbers reported by AFAD, the number of Syrians admitted and registered in the camps reached almost half a million (about 491,000 persons) and about 270,000 have been de-registered from camp records. It is not known how many of these registrations and de-registrations are multiple, nor whether any of these persons have returned to Syria.

● In Ceylanpinar camp, the education unit officials informed UNHCR that the workshop tent for the care and maintenance of electrical items in the camp has been connected to the education unit to offer a vocational course. About 18 males are currently reported to be attending the course, where they repair electrical items belonging to camp residents under the supervision of two technicians. In addition, there are also 331 (214 female and 117 male) camp residents attending various other vocational courses such as computer, hairdressing, textile and handicrafts classes.

● On 25 May 2014, local authorities in Gaziantep had a plenary meeting with representatives of the UN agencies, national and international NGOs providing support/assistance to Syrian refugees in Gaziantep province. During the plenary meeting UNHCR informed the officials of its continued intention to support the government of Turkey in its response to the needs of Syrian refugees both in camps and also in non-camp settings. The officials will also meet with state institution representatives involved in providing services to Syrians. A meeting is scheduled for 29 May with all the stakeholders (UN agencies, Government and non-governmental organizations) to discuss the impact of the Syria crisis, the situation of Syrian refugees in Turkey (those living in both camp and non-camp settings), the challenges and gaps, and how to respond to specific needs.
