● On 24 June 2014, AFAD - the Disaster and Emergency Management Agency of Government of Turkey - announced that the total number of Syrians registered and assisted in 22 camps located in 10 provinces was 218,496. AFAD reported that during the period of 23-24 June 2014, a total of 345 Syrians were admitted and registered in the camps and 51 Syrians voluntarily returned to Syria.

● The UNHCR WASH officer visited Karkamis camp and met with the camp officials. During the meeting, the officer responded to camp management questions on WASH issues and made suggestions regarding their water resource challenges. The camp received 10 WASH containers provided by UNHCR and the camp management is working on the installation of solar panels to activate the containers for the use of camp residents.

● In Akcakale, the camp management informed UNHCR that they are providing dry food packages to families from when they arrive until their food cards are issued. The food packages are provided on a family basis for anywhere between a few days to a few weeks. The management also informed UNHCR that they have started to build a special toilet for disabled persons and will build 1-2 in each district.

● The camp management of Akcakale furthermore informed UNHCR that during last week they organized a a week-long tour to Istanbul for a group of 100 children selected among successful students and child committee members. Despite the intention to include female students and the female committee members on the tour, their families did not allow them to join the trip, so only male students attended. The tour was funded by a Turkish NGO and some of the youth committee members also accompanied the group.

● In Karkamis camp, the management informed UNHCR that the container to be used as a child-friendly space is ready to start hosting activities. UNICEF social workers reported that they have already identified about 120 children in the camp to provide services to. In Harran camp, the officials informed UNHCR that they have reached to about 4,500 children in the camp and that more than 400 children attend their activities on a monthly basis.
