• On 23 October 2013, AFAD - the Disaster and Emergency Management Agency of Government of Turkey - announced that the total number of Syrians registered and assisted in 21 camps in 10 provinces was 200,051 including 98 Syrians receiving medical treatment in hospitals. AFAD reported that during the last 24hrs (22-23 Oct 2013), a total of 677 Syrians were admitted and registered in the camps and 653 Syrians have voluntarily returned to Syria.
• Camp officials in Karkamis informed UNHCR that while replacing the old tents in the camp, they are planning to erect some 60-70 more tents in order to provide proper accommodation to 50-60 people recently admitted to the camp and other unregistered residents. Camp officials additionally estimate that there are a few hundred unregistered Syrians living in the camp, who were presumably admitted to the camp as guests to visit/stay with their relatives temporarily and did not leave. Reportedly local officials are planning to establish another camp for up to 3,000 persons as an annex to Karkamis camp to accommodate the unregistered residents and possibly others will be admitted as new arrivals. The camp manager informed that the site has been identified and officials are in discussion with the land owner.
• The Camp management in Ceylanpinar informed UNHCR that while replacing the old tents, they are also re-organizing the waiting tents which will allow the camp residents to stay comfortably while their tents are replaced and the site is reorganized. Reportedly the electrical cabling is also replaced. In the meantime the re-registration of the camp residents is also done with the new registration data base and camp ID cards are also renewed. The new ID cards will be used in the camp for entry and exit at the main gate, for the provision of NFIs, as well as at the supermarket which is also being built in the camp.
• The registration unit in Ceylanpinar camp informed UNHCR that the re-registration of the camp residents with the new software is on going. Reportedly about 350 persons are registered on a daily basis and fingerprinted. The registration officials informed that those who were previously registered with Ceylanpinar camp but have been living outside with their relatives on monthly leave permission from the camp management is still about more than 11,000. These people's leave permissions will not be renewed but will be referred to the Coordination Center which will open a branch office in Ceylanpinar. Therefore these people will be reflected in the non-camp residents of Sanliurfa province.
