● On 21 May 2014, AFAD - the Disaster and Emergency Management Agency of Government of Turkey - announced that the total number of Syrians registered and assisted in 22 camps located in 10 provinces was 220,117 AFAD reported that during the period of 20-21 May 2014, a total of 286 Syrians were admitted and registered in the camps and 443 Syrians have voluntarily returned to Syria.

● In Nizip town the head of the Religious Affairs informed UNHCR that his office continues to provide support to the non-camp Syrians on an ad hoc basis. In addition, depending on the availability of space, he refers the most vulnerable families to the camp. Recently a family of 6 (female headed household) was referred to Nizip-1 camp and was admitted to the waiting area until a tent becomes available.

● In Viransehir camp, officials stated that upon their request, the Ministry of Health agreed for the employment of 5 Syrian nurses who are residing in the camp, to work in the camp clinic on a voluntary basis. Reportedly they will not be paid, but their work is officially endorsed and they will be offered the camp staff lunch provided by AFAD.

● Viransehir camp officials also informed UNHCR that WFP and Kizilay staff will organize a training session to some selected camp residents (muhtars, teachers and imams) to introduce the implementation of the new card system. These people are expected to explain the implementation to other camp residents. The camp management also stated that they have distributed some 2,800 mattresses and blankets, which were sent by IOM (funded by Japanese Gov.), among the camp residents.

● In Mardin, the provincial AFAD Director informed UNHCR that they have received some second-hand clothes from Malatya. The officials informed that the clothes were distributed to non-camp Syrians in Mardin and its towns, through the NGO platform called "Help Syrians Association". The head of Religious Affairs of Mardin Province stated that during the winter period his office distributed about 35,000 food packages and blankets to the non-camp Syrians through the same platform. He added that his office is paying 500 TL incentives to Syrian volunteer teachers working in the schools.
