Highlights

● On 19 May 2014, AFAD - the Disaster and Emergency Management Agency of Government of Turkey - announced that the total number of Syrians registered and assisted in 22 camps located in 10 provinces was 220,943 AFAD reported that during the period of 16-19 May 2014, a total of 366 Syrians were admitted and registered in the camps and 911 Syrians have voluntarily returned to Syria.

● In Osmaniye, officials informed UNHCR that the registration of the non-camp Syrians is almost completed and about 10,700 Syrians have been registered in Osmaniye and its surroundings. The local officials also stated in order to encourage the new arrivals to get registered, that non-registered Syrians will not be provided assistance.

● In Sanliurfa, UNHCR was informed that there are 4 schools providing education to Syrian children living outside of the camps. In one of the schools, which is supported by the Religious Affairs Foundation, about 1,200 Syrian children are registered. However attendance is reportedly to be around 50% due to the lack of transportation for the children from their homes to the school. There are about 32 Syrian teachers working on voluntary basis, who are also provided 500-600 TL per month as incentive.

● In Sanliurfa, Support to Life (STL) informed that while they are still conducting group discussions with Syrians to decide on activities to implement in their community center, they are also considering to hire a kindergarten teacher and to allocate one room in the center to be used as kindergarten and day-care for children between 3- 6 years.

● Malteser International informed that they are funding both the clinic and community center run by International Blue Crescent (IBC) in Kilis for non-camp Syrians. The clinic is providing health care to post operation cases and reportedly it is considering to expand its capacity with an additional 20 beds. The Community Center is providing services to about 800 non-camp Syrians in Kilis.
