Almost 60% of Syrian children enrolled in formal education programmes
SEPTEMBER-DECEMBER HIGHLIGHTS:
In November 2016 the Ministry of National Education (MoNE) reported that almost 60% of Syrian children were enrolled in formal education programmes, with just over 490,000 children enrolled in formal education programmes-325,00 in Turkish schools and 160,000 in temporary education centres (TECs). This is a significant achievement as enrolments have almost doubled since the same time last year, with an additional 200,000 children now having access to education.
Increased access to education was supported through large-scale dissemination of information by the Ministry on available educational opportunities (800,000 pamphlets were printed by 3RP partners on behalf of the Ministry). Education sector co-leads (UNICEF and UNHCR) hosted workshops for NGOs on outreach to refugees on accessing available education programmes.
