WHAT: Mission to Turkey

WHEN: 10-11 October 2019

WHERE: Ankara/Gaziantep/Kilis

UN humanitarian chief Mark Lowcock is scheduled to visit Turkey from 10 to 11 October 2019. The Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator is expected to meet with senior Turkish officials, donors, UN agencies and local and international NGOs involved in cross-border aid, and to visit a centre supporting education, women’s empowerment and psychosocial support for Syrians.

Of the more than 5.6 million Syrians who have fled the country since the crisis began in 2011, more than 3.6 million are now in Turkey, making it the largest host country to Syrian refugees in the world today.
