Development Cooperation
Eveline Herfkens, the Minister for Development Cooperation, has released 750,000 guilders in emergency aid for the victims of the Turkish earthquake. The money will go to the Dutch Red Cross and will be used for emergency shelters, field hospitals, water and sanitation facilities and communications equipment. Relief work in the disaster area is being coordinated by the International Red Cross in cooperation with the Turkish Red Crescent and UN relief teams.
Development Cooperation money is also being used to send five tracker dogs and their handlers to the disaster scene. The team left for Istanbul on a special Netherlands Royal Air Force flight from Eindhoven airbase this morning.
