Still recovering from the havoc caused
by the August 17 earthquake, last Friday's (Nov. 12) further quake has
brought fresh devastation and suffering.
The official death toll from Friday's
quake has now jumped to 547, with 2,836 injured and many made homeless.
The August 17 quake killed 17,000 people.
Baptist World Aid (BWAid), the relief and development arm of the Baptist World Alliance has already provided Christians in Turkey with $85,000 to assist in the relief work, particularly the re-housing of those made homeless.
BWAid has worked through the Hope International Church in Istanbul, World Relief and ACT. Prefabricated homes are being erected for between $3,000 and $4,500 each, and other care is also being provided.
"Now with this further tragedy we will need to do more," commented Paul Montacute, BWAid Director. Donations should be designated for 'Turkish Earthquake Relief'
