Trinidad and Tobago – Severe Flooding (DG ECHO, Government of Trinidad and Tobago, Media) (ECHO Daily Flash of 22 October 2018)
Flooding continues to affect Trinidad and Tobago, covering an estimated 80% of the territory. 6 000 people are affected and 13 shelters have been opened. Assessments are still ongoing.
An orange alert is in effect until 23 October for the entire country. A red alert is also in effect for Riverine flooding until Friday 26 October with possible further flash flooding. The Prime Minister has declared a “national disaster” and authorities are responding to the event.
Additionally, an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.1 was felt in sections of the twin island republic on 21 October, with no damage reported.
